Chapter 7 Health Dilemmas
On arrival there were big warmings of Rota virus outbreak in south Tarawa. This causes diarrhoea and vomiting. Washing hands and being careful with water use is essential.
Too much rice not enough fruit and veges or water + sitting in planes and cars for days = bad constipation for me. My supply of movicol was not enough to get things moving so required a trip to the pharmacy for some extra strength liquid. A few doses did the trick and the system is back in action. I will be avoiding too much rice in the future. I would add stronger laxative such as senakot to the future supplies list.Bryan was knocked down with the flu bug. Neither of us has been sick enough to call in the iSOS for support. Panadol rest and vitamin C have helped ease things.
Denge fever has been a problem here in the past. Radio reports the numbers have reduced due to a mosquito treatment program. We are trying to avoid mosquitos as much as possible.
