Transport

The main road in South Tarawa is not too bad but often has lots of traffic and moves slowly one lane in each direction.  The side roads are poor and can be dirt and full of potholes.

Public transport is a series of white vans that move around the island on the main road there is no strict timetable and they are often very crowded. The weekend has limited

options, especially Sunday.

We were advised to try and organise our own transport to give us more freedom, which is also proving challenging.  A car is not affordable, and a small motorcycle, registered and capable of carrying two people will be around $2000. We managed to get some helmets. I had the choice of black or white of the only style small enough. I chose the white one.

The juggling of funds and transfers from Australia has been difficult so we wait. Things are going to be very difficult until my position is secured and that allowance is paid. The months after that should be a little less stressful.
